Jacket Covers

April 2020 - Revised November 2021

Art Direction, Branding, Packaging Design

this design project has a variety of elements in which the consumer is able to connect sensory experience from visual medium to the auditory. Consumers often experience the visual before the auditory. Each of these independent designs considers the singer's life story and incorporates aspects of it in the artwork for the jacket cover.

This project was based on a desire to continue to work in packaging. The concept for each design is to take the singer's iconic characteristic(s) and embody it as a primary focus; for Melody I chose her sensuality of her voice as it radiates from her chest. Nina, features the piano and specific facial features. Billie’s favorite flower (magnolia) was selected to convey her delicate and sweet voice visually.

Melody Gardot

Born in New Jersey in 1985 Melody Gardot is an American jazz singer, she possesses a blue, jazz-oriented style and dusky persona that reflect not only her afflictions, but conversely the hope and joy of making personalized music that marks her as an original.

Born in February 21, 1933— April 21, 2003 Nina Simone was an American singer who created urgent emotional intensity by singing songs of love, protest, and black empowerment in a dramatic style.
